Weather Woes

It just wouldn't stop. The snow kept falling and falling. I guess they said we had almost 30 cm. But man those drifts were up to my thighs in some spots. Bella and I headed to the school yesterday to work and what would have been a ten minute walk took us twenty-five minutes. It was really hard to judge how deep the snow was in some places. We hit a snow drift and I fell through it. Bella, in slow motion, face planted it. I pulled her up and we walked about five feet and she did it again. With the wind whipping around us, we stopped and had a little cry. I'm so glad that it is over. Hopefully some walkways are shoveled today.

On a lighter note, it was Riley's talent show at school. He did GREAT!!! The two boys in his group chickened out. He wasn't going to do it and at first I said to him if he didn't want to go up he didn't have to. A little bit later I looked at him and told him to do it. And that if he felt nervous to just look at me and I'll help him through it. Well he took a deep breath and got up there and sang his song. I was so proud of him. It took a lot of courage to get up there and sing in front of a big crowd. If you are wondering what song he did, he sang Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. The one thing about Riley is he likes the classics.



I don't know why he wanted to wear a blazer, but oh well. Here you have a future David Letterman or a politician.

A Little Fall. A Mother's Sadness

I wasn't there today when he fell. It wasn't a big fall. Nothing was broken, just a scrape. I wasn't there to dry his tears or hold him close. He came to me after school and said "I fell off the monkey bars at lunch." I look at him with concern in my eyes. "Are you okay?" "I hit my head and banged my knee." "Did you cry?" "Just a little. I have a headache." I look him over to make sure there's no bump. He shows me his band-aid, the scrape hiding beneath. There was a time I was there for every bump, cut, bruise. Now there is someone else to make him feel better. To hold him as he tries so hard not to cry. He doesn't like it when others see him cry. Tears are reserved for only those he trusts. He grows each day and slowly pulls away. There will be a time when he'll have places to go and things to do. And the days of him grabbing my hand to cross the street or a kiss goodbye as I leave him at school will be a distant memory. But for now call me selfish when I want to be there to make it all better.

Warmish Friday

The kids were able to get outside for a bit today. The weather hasn't been the greatest for their Spring Break. But as I look out the window I see that the clouds are moving in and the warm sunshine is slowly disappearing. Which means the warmth is going to go with it. Riley faking a smile because I just told him that he couldn't ride his bike. The tires need air.

On a side note. The robins are back. We get very excited around here when they came back in the Spring time. It's a race to see who can see them first. I won this year. Hopefully their baby will survive. Two years now the neighbourhood cats have gotten the baby. I don't think I can handle it if the baby doesn't make it this year.

Going To Lunch With The Ladies

No not me. I don't lunch. The few friends I have don't lunch. We may coffee, but we don't say to each other "Lets Do Lunch." Bella went for lunch this afternoon with her Crazy Aunties. Here she is waiting for Ang.

It must be Spring time. Our poor hairless cat has begun to perch herself in the windowsill. The birds are slowly coming back and she is desperately trying to get them. This will now go on for a good five to six months. That's about it. We are into day two of Spring Break and the kids are still alive. Amazing. Happy April everyone.

Before and After

Bella had a nap yesterday afternoon. She was sleeping pretty hard, because this is what she looked like when she woke up. Scary!! I told her she looked like Jane of the Jungle. But she had no idea what the heck I was talking about.

This is Bella after her bath this morning. See she does clean up pretty good. But don't look too close, I think she has breakfast still on her face. I thought she wiped it good enough.
