Best Friends

Here's a picture of Bella and her best friend Teresa. These two are always together. Teresa, along with her Nana, work the lunch hour at the school with Bella and me. It's funny to see the two of them together. Both are the youngest, both are headstrong. They will be going to kindergarten together this September. I feel sorry for their teacher. They are going to give him a run for his money.
The count down to the last day of school is on. I think the kids and I are done. Doing homework has become such an effort. (even on my part) I know I'll regret writing that. Come August I'll be screaming for them to go back to school.

Blue Skies and Bike Rides

You know that the summer season is around the corner when the bikes come out. This weekend we pulled the bikes out for the kids and fixed them up. Now we have tried to bring them out before. But every time we have, it snowed. Not a little bit, a foot of it. So don't blame us for being a little cautious in doing it. I have a feeling that we won't see Riley now until it snows again. His life revolves around bike riding. This summer we are bound and determined to get Bailey riding without training wheels. She needs to put some time and effort into it though.

Isn't she lovely. This is what happens when you eat a chocolate cookie. We were laughing so hard. I'm surprised that this picture turned out. It was hard to get a good one.

Three Amigos

I wanted a group hug and this is what I got. I had to push Riley closer so I could take the picture. Oh well you take what you can get.

I just got back from a field trip I went on with Bailey. We headed to Fort Edmonton for the morning. It was lots of fun. I was on Molasses Candy duty. I stood over a hot burning stove for two hours making candy. Now the weather here is damp and cold. A nice roaring fire would be a pleasant welcome for someone who has just come in from outside. Nice roaring fire my butt. That thing was dang hot. I'm so glad I live in a time period where we have modern technology like ELECTRICITY.

Weather Woes

It just wouldn't stop. The snow kept falling and falling. I guess they said we had almost 30 cm. But man those drifts were up to my thighs in some spots. Bella and I headed to the school yesterday to work and what would have been a ten minute walk took us twenty-five minutes. It was really hard to judge how deep the snow was in some places. We hit a snow drift and I fell through it. Bella, in slow motion, face planted it. I pulled her up and we walked about five feet and she did it again. With the wind whipping around us, we stopped and had a little cry. I'm so glad that it is over. Hopefully some walkways are shoveled today.

On a lighter note, it was Riley's talent show at school. He did GREAT!!! The two boys in his group chickened out. He wasn't going to do it and at first I said to him if he didn't want to go up he didn't have to. A little bit later I looked at him and told him to do it. And that if he felt nervous to just look at me and I'll help him through it. Well he took a deep breath and got up there and sang his song. I was so proud of him. It took a lot of courage to get up there and sing in front of a big crowd. If you are wondering what song he did, he sang Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. The one thing about Riley is he likes the classics.

I don't know why he wanted to wear a blazer, but oh well. Here you have a future David Letterman or a politician.

A Little Fall. A Mother's Sadness

I wasn't there today when he fell. It wasn't a big fall. Nothing was broken, just a scrape. I wasn't there to dry his tears or hold him close. He came to me after school and said "I fell off the monkey bars at lunch." I look at him with concern in my eyes. "Are you okay?" "I hit my head and banged my knee." "Did you cry?" "Just a little. I have a headache." I look him over to make sure there's no bump. He shows me his band-aid, the scrape hiding beneath. There was a time I was there for every bump, cut, bruise. Now there is someone else to make him feel better. To hold him as he tries so hard not to cry. He doesn't like it when others see him cry. Tears are reserved for only those he trusts. He grows each day and slowly pulls away. There will be a time when he'll have places to go and things to do. And the days of him grabbing my hand to cross the street or a kiss goodbye as I leave him at school will be a distant memory. But for now call me selfish when I want to be there to make it all better.
